Let's get caught up with recent sketches!

These two are hopefully the start of a larger set of drawings from a bridle. The first is of only the brow band, the second drawing shows my first study of the bridle.

This is a sketch I did of my drink at the Delaney's Speak Easy down in Columbia, SC.  Very cool place, and my compliments to our bartender, Jeremy!

This one was a fast sketch of some of the black-eyed susans in the garden in front of my house.

These were all sketches done at Scotsgrove Stables this past Monday.

I did two portraits at the end of my day.  Both aren't quite right--they look like some other horse in the barn than the horse I was drawing!! I'll keep working on it though.

Alright!! New stuff!  Some of these are a few weeks old, but I want to get them up here.

This one was a still life my mom and I did together one morning.  As an exercise, we used only a red, a green, a black and white, and yellow as a final accent color.  At the bottom right, you can see 2 scales I used to decide which green and red to use for the drawing. (graphite and colored pencil on MiTientes paper)

This is a still life I put together at my mom's studio.  I wanted to get some practice with reflections and color accuracy.  I wish now that I had played a bit more with the placement of my subjects, but you live and learn. (oil on canvas)

These are pictures of a turtle shell that I reassembled for a friend. The first images show the disassembled pieces and my set up; the second set of images show the completed carapace and then the completed shell. There was also a skull, but no way to mount it without the cervical vertebra.  We are thinking about trying to create replicas of the leg and hip bones in order to have a "complete" skeleton.

I also did some sketches out at Scotsgrove Stables yesterday, but I'll put them in another post.
